Scarborough
Fair was not a fair as we know it today
(although it attracted jesters and jugglers) but
was a huge forty-five day trading event held
each summer. People from all over England, and
even some from the continent, came to
Scarborough to do their business. As eventually
the harbor started to decline, so did the fair
and Scarborough ultimately became a small, quiet
town.

Are
you going to Scarborough Fair?
This stunning example of 19th century
florals and blenders remind us of parsley, sage,
rosemary and thyme. Elegant line work and delicate
variations in color are typical of these European period
engravings and are a rare find in a single collection.
The original quilt from which The
Scarborough Fair Collection began was found in Northwest
England very near the seaside resort of Scarborough.
Founded well over a thousand years ago as Skarthaborg by
the Norman and Skartha as known by the Vikings,
Scarborough became a very important port and venue for
tradesmen from all over England.
