Williamsburg. The capital of the
Virginia colony in the 1700s. A bustling center for
political outspokenness and cultural development. After
nearly two centuries as a British royal colony, Virginia
led the American fight for independence. Colonists
wanted the political rights of Englishmen-as well as
their architecture and decoration. As Great Britain
expanded her empire throughout the 17th and 18th
centuries, artisans drew inspiration from the exotic
goods and natural wonders of Asia and the New World.
Fabrics from all over the world made
their way to harbors around the Chesapeake Bay. Most
were created in India and exported to England, then to
America. These textiles were varied, expensive, and
precious. The India Chintz Collection was inspired by
printed Indian chintz textiles from The Colonial
Williamsburg Foundation archives. Brightly colored
chintzes often featured cheerful designs drawn from
nature. Our versions update classic style for today's
home.
With beautiful designs, enticing
colors, and timeless appeal, these fabrics will help
quilters create their own piece of history.
